NOTES 2/4/06 Fixation Find something at that one state that works for them, and they’ll get clingy Happens to everyone- older children acting younger to get attention (siblings are born) older people do it to- if you become fixated in any one stage, it keeps you from moving through the other stages progressively like you are supposed to if fixated in oral stage- drinking , smoking, kissing- anything involved with the mouth tendency for depending on others for self-esteem and support stingy, stubborn, and orderly person if fixated at the phallic stage- more likely to be aggressive, impulsive, want to dominate others, vain exhibitionist (risky sex, show off) deal with sexual inadequacy, feelings of anger, and low self-esteem alcohol helps them deal with those feelings alcoholism is usually attributed to some one with a fixation at the oral stage- remind psychoanalysts of infants- derive pleasure from the bottle
