Notes 3/26/07 J.K. Jackson 7 Stages of Adjustment that the wives of alcoholics make o The husbands drinking create tension and embarrassment in the family. The wife is indecisive and the husband is embarrassed. Both spouses deny any problem. In between the binges, both spouses will try to be the perfect mate to one another. Of course this can’t happen during the binges. The problem is that this gets in the way of them facing the fact that there is a problem. They are going to have these discussions with others: “When he isn’t drinking, he’s perfect.” If the wife has the courage to bring up the subject, the husband will become resentful, but typically he will promise not to drink anymore. He can’t fulfill that promise because the drinking has gotten out of control. o The husbands’ drinking increases and the family becomes more socially isolated. The wife will attempt to cover up her husbands drinking and she will especially attempt to hide it from his employer.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
