ADKAR is an acronym for Awareness, Desire, Knowledge, Ability, and Reinforcement. Awareness is the first step which focuses on the need for change. Desire happens after an employee becomes aware of why they need the change. They can learn how to benefit from the change and find the desire to change. Knowledge is the next step in identifying all the knowledge they are going to need to learn to successfully make the change. Ability involves the confidence and tools required to effectively gain the skills and behaviors intended because of the transition.
