FINAL PROJECT SUBMISSIONWellness in SocietyWellness entails being emotionally, physically, and mentally healthy. If one of these three statesof wellness is out of balance, the other two may suffer as well.Maintaining a work-life balanceis critical for maintaining a personal life balance. Many of us, me included, are juggling work, relationships, family obligations, and making time for ourselves and our interests. For the pasteleven years, I have been working full-time, going to school full-time, and raising a family offour children, all while trying to take care of myself.Stress levels rise as we rush around tryingto get everything done at work and at home, resulting in decreased productivity. This stress canderail your efforts to achieve your goals as well as your relationships. There are changes that canbe made to gain the balance back in your life, but if changes are not made this could severelyimpact your mental health causing anxiety and/or depression.IssueThe most diagnosed mental disorders in children are ADHD, anxiety problems, behavioral problems, and depression.“The use of exercising to reduce anxiety symptoms inchildren and adolescents is possible because of endorphins being released decreasing stresshormones” (Star, 2023).Society Impacts“Early research has explored the impact of traditional media (eg, television, movies) onchildren's acute fears, which can result in anxieties and related sleep disturbances that aredifficult to remedy.More recent research deals with the interactive nature of newer media, especially social media, and their impacts on anxiety and depression” (Hoge et al, 2017).
FINAL PROJECT SUBMISSIONPopulationChildren and adolescents all over the world are dealing with mental health issues. This ismore common in homes where the child is forced to mature faster and take on adultresponsibilities. The decline of free play can lead to a decrease in children's sense of control andintrinsic goals, as well as an increase in anxiety and depression. According to Psychology Today, historically, children learn to solve their own problems, control their own lives, develop theirown interests, and become competent in pursuit of their own interests through free play andexploration. (Gillihan, 2021).General education interdisciplinary lensUtilizing the history lens, mental health issues have been rising sturdily for children andadolescents the past 50 years.“According to the data, young people's belief that they havecontrol over their own destinies has declined dramatically over the decades. When people do notfeel like they have control that spikes mental health issues like anxiety and depression” (Gray,2021).
