1 Final Study Guide 11:00 am class: Finals are Monday May 12, 10:30-1:00 3:00 pm class: Finals are Friday May 16, 1:30-4:00 Finals are timed to take approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes; however, you can use the entire 2 ½ hour slot if you wish. Finals for the two classes will be different versions, although both will be drawn from the material on the study guide. Short Essays: Terms (8-10 minutes each / 3 total) You will be given five or six options, from which you must select three. Books and coursepacks will not be permitted during the test. You can roughly paraphrase important passages, or describe what happens in a work. Directions: Provide a thorough, nuanced explanation of each term that reveals your understanding of class discussion about the term. Then use one or two texts read in class to illustrate your discussion of the term. Make sure your discussion of the “examples” is not just a superficial one, but rather explains, using details from the text itself, how it illustrates the term. Keep in mind that the fact that we’ve used a term with reference to a work does not necessarily mean that the work is a perfect example of the term; in some cases, the best answers might explain why
