Page 2 Humanities 1090 Mythology 4 Athena (Minerva) Armor: Helmet, Spear, Shield, Aegis (Goat-skin breastplate) Grey-Eyed; Aloof Severe Beauty, Masculine Owl, Crow Olive Tree , Pomegranate Alan LeQuire Athena Parthenos Parthenon Reconstruction Nashvil e, Tennessee This statue is currently the largest piece of indoor sculpture in the Western World, standing almost 42 feet tall. It is a replica of the Athena Parthenos by Phidias. The replica stands in the inner chamber of the full- scale reconstruction of the Acropolis Parthenon located in Nashville's Centennial Park. Her left arm cradles a spear with the hand resting on a shield; behind the shield rises a large snake, which the plaque nearby says symbolizes the people of Athens. (The idea of snake as house guardian was widespread in the ancient world, surviving the rise of Christianity. Athena herself is connected with older Mycenaean snake goddesses.) Alan LeQuire used a polychrome and gilding process that brought the statue to an appearance
