2Running head:Carnival Cruise Lines Case Study Case RecapCarnival Cruise Lines is one of the most popular and biggest cruise line available, with more than 102 ships that are very affordable for consumers. The cruise line is known as the “Fun-ship” in the cruise line industry. With its family-oriented and low prices, makes the cruise line perfect for first-time cruisers. Recently, the cruise line has been in the public eye because of several mishaps. These mishaps include fires, wrecks, pirate take over, and death. These incidents have caused the whole cruise industry to take a hit. Carnival is learning the hard way on how ready their crisis management team is and what should be or should not be done in such events. The media has been a major problem on how the public reacts to these events. Social media has been the main source for the cruise line to report these situations as they are happening. They received both, negative and positive reactions. The way the cruise line had handle these situations was in question, for each event there was a different methodology being used. Problem IdentificationThe main problem is that once the world has heard of theses bad situations their attitude about the cruise line becomes very polluted. With them using social media to broadcast these issues, they gave up the control of the crises. Keeping the public informed as things happen is a good way to stay ahead of the media, but the problem is the perception the public will have once the media starts to report it. Crisis, such as these, should not be broadcast so clearly to the public.The cruise line should make sure they have the issues under control before addressing the public in any form.
