Salena Woods 2Salena WoodsBefore taking this class, I did not really think that much about human interaction and theearth.I considered myself as a socially conscious person, but I realize I have only beenconscious about social injustice, which is equally important, but without the earth and itsresources, we will not have societies. Each week we wrote journals about current events of ourchoice.I noticed that most of my journals focused on the over population of Earth, GMO’s,humanitarians, melting glaciers, and the extinction of honeybees. All of these subjects have aprofound effect on society and the earth. What can we do as a human society to prepare, avoid, or overcome the problemsaddressed in our journals?Let’s start with the overpopulation of Earth. The earth has over 7billion people living on it, and that number is increasing. There are many scholars and scientiststhat believe reducing birth rates to only two children per woman is one of the answers to theoverpopulation of earth. In the early 1980’s, the Chinese government had a population controlpolicy of one child per family rule.If you had more than one child you could be taxed up to fiftypercent of your income, or even lose your job or lose other benefits. How would we be able toenforce this two child restriction humanely is the question I have.We have other issues stemming from overpopulation, such as pollution. The mostcommon source of air pollution is the combustion of fossil fuels.Vehicle engines and powerstations usually produce this type of pollution. We have big cities that are overcrowded withpeople and equally overcrowded with vehicles. We are increasing out carbon foot print atalarmingly dangerous rate. The earth had everything humans needed to survive in the beginning, but as time progressed, we humans got greedy. As a result, we are rapidly using non-renewable
