Modernity and faith in one’s religion are often at odds, and while members of different religions have dealt with each challenge differently, in general, there have been two “sides” that seek to reconcile that conflict. (see above about two sentences) Though religious conservatism and liberalism sprout from many of the same beliefs, sometimes formal or informal; they don’t always see eye to eye on how to live, interpret scriptures, beliefs(?) , and integrate in modern America. What are the roots of the “conservative” and “liberal” branches of religion in America? And how do they address the many complexities of both religion and modern times? (excellent intro – you might want to add one sentence mentioning the specific examples that you will explore) To further explore these topics, we will first review how religious conservatism took hold and developed in America. At its roots, religious conservatism is a call for the return to practicing and following fundamental beliefs and values. Their view is often that man is veering off the path ordained by God and the Bible, and that strict adherence to holy writings and certain practices is the only way to get back on the path to salvation. good Conservatism is something of an umbrella term, encompassing branches including Fundamentalism, Holiness and Pentecostalism, as well as dispensational pre-millennialism among others; each having their own beliefs and followers, but all having the same essential goal of preserving a catalog of basic ideas and practices despite the continuing influx of scientific information that threatens to challenge much of what is written in the
