3.02 – Political Socialization Discuss how you think you have been politically socialized. How similar or different are you from your family? (Include as many agents of socialization as you would like.) I’ve been, I think, lucky enough to have parents who encourage me to seek my own path. In anything from politics to religion, they stand by my choices – which are formed, then, by the objective weighing of different socioeconomic and political issues. The media, school, my parents, etc. serve as informers (and I make sure of this by looking into the opposing side’s argument whenever possible), but the ultimate decision relies on my personal set of values. I tend to have different views than my parents on most issues, but maybe the fact that we all sway towards independent candidates means I’ve been shaped by their views more than I think. Which may or may not be a negative prospect. Response to Micah James: The situation between my family and me is exactly the same. It seems like a good thing that some of us have the privilege of being allowed and encouraged to have free minds that seek their own path. Response to Brittany Morgan:
