ASSESSMENT INFORMATION for students1.1How you will be assessedThe process we follow is known as competency-based assessment. This means that evidence of yourcurrent skills and knowledge will be measured against national standards of best practice, not against thelearning you have undertaken either recently or in the past. Some of the assessment will be concerned withhow you apply your skills and knowledge in the workplace, and some in the training room as required byeach unit.The Graduate Diploma is at Level 8 on the Australian Qualifications Framework. This means that coursedesign, delivery and assessment must meet the specifications of Level 8 in the AQF – seeGraduates of a Graduate Diploma will have advanced knowledge within a systematic and coherent body ofknowledge that may include the acquisition and application of knowledge and skills in a new or existingdiscipline or professional area.They will have:• cognitive skills to review, analyse, consolidate and synthesise knowledge and identify and providesolutions to complex problems• cognitive skills to think critically and to generate and evaluate complex ideas• specialised technical and creative skills in a field of highly skilled and/or professional practice• communication skills to demonstrate an understanding of theoretical concepts • communication skills totransfer complex knowledge and ideas to a variety of audiencesThe assessment tasks have been designed to enable you to demonstrate the required skills and knowledgeand produce the critical evidence to successfully demonstrate competency at this standard.
