2POSTPARTUM HEMORRHAGE CASE STUDYPatient Medical History:Patient Burns was a 22-year-old Hispanic female, born on October 5, 1999. The patientpresented to Tripler Army Medical Center at 40 weeks pregnant on June 1, 2022 and gave birthvaginally with no epidural or anesthesia 24 hours later. The birth was uncomplicated and PatientBurns and the baby were both healthy with normal vitals and laboratory results upon discharge,48 hours post birth.Patient Burns presented to the emergency room 2 weeks post delivery and was readmittedto the hospital due to abnormally heavy vaginal bleeding. The patient stated that the bleedingbegan 10 days postpartum and severely increased each day, going through an average of 2 padsper hour. Patient Burns had taken 200 mg of ibuprofen daily post delivery and disclosed a knownmedical history of iron deficiency anemia due to menorrhagia (abnormal heavy bleeding whenmenstruating). No known family history was reported due to the patient being adopted.Upon initial examination in the emergency room, the patient appeared to be pale inappearance with cold hands and feet. When asked to provide a urine sample, the patient excretedlarge clots of blood. Vitals on admission: blood pressure - 136 mmHg/ 85 mmHg, heart rate –120 beats/min, respirations – 17 breaths/min, O2 saturation – 99%, and temperature – 37.0oC
