129819Paper 3- The MetamorphosisAdrian, Block 411/4/2016In Kafka's novel, The Metamorphosis, Gregor's father spites him from the beginning, his motherworries throughout, and Grete's love for him fades into seeing Gregor as nothing but a burden. His family members' transformation causes Gregor to fall into a state of self-loathing. Gregor's father spites Gregor from the very beginning of the novel. When Gregor's father finds out that Gregor turns into a bug, Kafka describes him as, “ With a hostile expression his father clenchedhis fist, as if to drive Gregor back into his room...” (Kafka 14). Gregor's father acts this way because hefeels as though Gregor embarrasses the family enough. Now to present himself as a bug in front of his employer, his father can not help but feel anger at Gregor for putting the family in an even bigger state of embarrassment. Later, Kafka writes about an incident where Gregor's father kicks Gregor back into his room. This shows the beginning of his father's transformation. As the “metamorphosis” of Gregor continues, his father gradually turns into a man of action and really begins to act like the leader of the household.
