“Ethics in HM” 4/13/08 In our last 700 class, Dr. George discussed ethics in the hospitality industry and the difference between what is morally and ethically wrong? It is hard to differentiate morally and ethically so we look at the definitions to help distinguish the 2. Ethics can be defined as what you believe is right and wrong; your feelings; social norms; what the law requires to be right; standards society accepts. There are so many different ways to look at ethics but it is easy to see that ethical decisions can happen anywhere. Morals can be defined as “ concerned with the principles or rules of right conduct or the distinction between right and wrong” ( www.dictionary.com ). Both ethics and morals are both very similar however ethics can me viewed in a legal sense but morals as a personal view. In the hospitality industry, many use ethics and morals to make decisions.
