Radtke, Connor ENG 123 Ryan, Steve 4-Sep-16 The Actual Reality of Television The cable television industry has grown to great proportions since the introduction of it into homes nearly 100 years ago. In that time the consumer has seen great change in the nature of televised broadcasts. In the United States, Americans spend many hours each week watching television; however, the type of content that is watched most is surprising. The average person would guess that ESPN and the sporting events that are aired on that channel receive the most viewership, but that is not true. From time to time ESPN has held the lead in overall viewership numbers, but with increasing cost to the consumer in order to buy into programs and games their numbers have fallen greatly (McCarthy, 2016). The channel that has taken the top spot for primetime viewership, which has surprised many, is the heated and politically controversial Fox News channel. Over the last few months their primetime
