Insiders- People on the inside, those who either approve of and/or use drugs Outsiders- People on the ouside, those who do not approve of and/or use drugs Drugs- Any substances that modify (either by enhancing, inhibilitating, or distorting) mind and/or body functioning Psychoactive Drugs- Drug compounds tht affect the central nervous system and alter consciousness and/or perceptions Four Principle Factors affecting how a drug user experiences a drug are- Pharmacological, Cultural, Social, & Contextual. Pharmacological- Ingredients of a particular drug affect the functions of the body & nervous system, which affect social behavior. Cultural- Society’s views of drug use, determined by custom & tradition, affect our initial approach to & use of a particular drug. Social- Motivation of taking a drug is affected by a need like stopping pain, curing illness, fun, coping etc. Belief that attitudes about drug use develop from
