How Social Uses of Technology Affect Our Real-Life Relationships On average, people spend 10-20 hours on the internet each week. (Humphrey Taylor, 1) This statistic may be surprising to some, but not to me. The way that people have changed since the access to the internet has become available to everyone is definitely noticeable. Communication in the majority of families has decreased and some people prefer the virtual world over the real world all together. Family dinners are rare because everyone has become so busy due to the ability to be many places, with thanks to vehicles. All of this leads to disconnection from our family and our friends. With technology constantly around us, some people let it consume their lives in place of the real world. The communication level in homes has decreased due to the use of things like videogames, the internet, cell phones, laptops, and compact disc players. People can play video games for hours a day without even noticing it. This quickly sends real-life relationships into a downward spiral, because the
