Sarah Angiolelli *I am responding to “What Is a Family?” By Pauline Irit Erera First paragraph *I will begin with a statistic…in 1998 only 26% of households in America had children with married couples as the parents *Still, when people are asked what a normal family is to them, they say a married man and women with their biological children. *Things are changing now and everyone needs to realize that Second Paragraph *Some people think that “the family” is gone forever because it will never be the same again. It isn’t gone, it is just in metamorphosis. *People blame our drug problems, homicide rates, poor education, and teen pregnancy all on our high divorce rates and family diversity. * They seem to think that because we never had these problems when we had almost all nuclear families, these new styles of families are to blame. *Things have to change sometime. * I am glad that people are finally brave enough to stand up for what they believe in, and be who they are out loud! Third Paragraph *Recently, women have begun to opt for a single parent lifestyle by having artificial insemination. -----some people see this as selfish, but it isn’t…it’s a personal choice that is responsible for the mother to make if she feels as though she is capable of raising a child on her own. *Research shows that a close relationship with one nurturing
