Laura O’SheaCarter Racing CaseDr. Andrew DeltonThe problem that John Carter faces is whether or not his team should compete in the Pocono race, taking into consideration the team’s engine failures thatoccurred during this past season. Carter’s reputation, current sponsorships, and most importantly, their potential sponsorship with Goodstone Tire all depend on theoutcome of John’s decision. Based on the statistics provided by Tom, there is no relationship between ambient air temperature and gasket blowouts. All of the blowouts occurred between temperatures of 50 and 75 degrees, with the majority above 60 degrees. Although some of the races without blown gaskets occurred during temperatures above 75 degrees, the data supports that a substantial amount also occurred during temperatures below 75 degrees. Carter’s gasket problem must be related to another issue that is unclear to the team. My recommendation is that Carter Racing should compete in the Pocono race.
