The question will be based on one of the texts assigned for the course. Your answer, which will take the form of a scholarly argument, should include an arguable thesis (your answer to the question) as well as supporting evidence taken from lecture, section discussions, and the assigned course readings. You should also propose a plausible alternative hypothesis (that is, you should consider a plausible alternative answer to the question) and should rebut the alternative hypothesis (that is, you should explain why your answer is better). LENGTH: 46 pages DUE: Thursday, July 3 12% PAPER #2 Submit a paper that answers a question of your own about one of the texts assigned for the course. Your answer, which will take the form of a scholarly argument, should explain why you ask the question you do and should include an arguable thesis as well as supporting evidence taken from lecture, section discussions, and the assigned course readings. You should also address a plausible alternative hypothesis and should rebut that alternative hypothesis. LENGTH: 46 pages DUE: Thursday, July 17 15% PAPER #3 Submit a paper that answers a question of your own about an important text, event, institution, or phenomenon that existed in or was produced by one of the cultures studied in the course. Your answer, which will take the form of a scholarly argument, should explain why you ask the question you do and should include an arguable thesis as well as supporting evidence taken from lecture, section, and the assigned readings.
