Kanwal Mirza Huma 1301 004 9-26-07 Chapter 8 Opening Questions How did the Northern Renaissance differ from the Renaissance in Italy? The Northern Renaissance was different from the Renaissance in Italy because it was a revival of spiritual values and teaching of the early church fathers. The Northern Renaissance was very closely associated with religious renewal. Instead of classical humanism, Christian humanism was widely spread. Their main purpose was to put the message of Jesus into daily practice. Also this was the era that made religion more accessible to the masses and the greater common population by removal of the mysticism and elaborate ceremonies. (pg. 220) It also differed as far as literary, artistic, and musical pursuits went. The landmarks in those areas from that time are focused on and inspired by religion or church services. o The music in church was improved and expanded upon. (pg. 241) o Artists looked to the saints and other holy events and people for inspiration and recreated their own interpretation of religious stories. (pg.236)
