WEEK A 9/29: Lecture Notes Fiction Films based on Truth (semi Docs): Schindler’s List, Forest Gump, Brave Heart, Titanic, Gladiator, Beautiful Mind, Chicago, Aviator (Howard Hues) , Ray. Verité (Truth) Style: film/movies/TV all sometimes use documentary style film techniques to give reality. Factors of documentaries: Industrial- business structures of film industry. Behind scenes and production. Aesthetic- visual and auditory elements. Ideological factors- (propaganda) all films have certain point to get across. What is a documentary: (There is no definite answer) A film where filmmaker wants audience to believe it is real. Can have acting. We accept it as real. Often has story line, climax, character arc (dramatic structure), What they choose to show you in order to pass on a point. To teach or instruct. Factual film with drama. Recreation is ok, but generally staged stuff is not. Film in its original form. Truth and drama emerge. Definitions of documentary
