Landmarks to know for Anatomy Class Vertebral Bodies C1 o Anterior oblique plane of Superior Thoracic Aperture C2 C3 C4 C5 C6 o Esophagus stems from pharynx o Trachea stems form the larynx C7 o Largest spinous process (vertebral prominens) is palpable o [at transverse process] attachment site for Suprapleural membrane (Sibson’s Fascia) T1 o Thoracic Inlet / a.k.a Superior Thoracic Aperture (clinically called Outlet) o [T1-T4/5] Anterior Longitudinal Ligament T2 o Sternal notch T3 o [T3-T4] Manubrium 3 large branches of Aortic Arch surface here o Bifurcation of trachea into 1° bronchi (Carina – although this is an internal structure) T4 o Carina o Site where Azygos v. begins its arch over the root of R. Lung o [T4/5] “Sternal Angle (of Louis) *this is also at the junction of 2 nd rib [T4/5] Transverse Thoracic Plane o [T4/5] Aortic Arch * ascending aorta actually begins in Inferior Middle Mediastinum o [T4/T5] Superior border of Fibrous Pericardium (continuous w/ tunica adventitia)
