The 13thamendment freed all African-Americans from slavery and it gave congress the power to enforce the 13thamendment by “appropriate legislation”. This amendment was simply the gate way to complete freedom for African-Americans because it led to many other laws and amendments that gave African-Americans rights.Why it happened?The 13thamendment was passed because President Lincoln wanted slavery to end and theEmancipation Proclamation wasn’t enough because it was only made during times of war and after the war it would not be in use because the war is over and they can’t free any other slaves inthe south.
