CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.9-10.6 Determine an author's point of view or purpose in a text and analyze how an author uses rhetoric to advance that point of view or purpose. Key Shifts in English Language Arts 1. Regular practice with complex texts and their academic language 2. Reading, writing, and speaking grounded in evidence from texts, both literary and informational 3. Building knowledge through content-rich nonfiction Connection to Unit Map: Atlas Unit : Modes of Persuasion Mini Unit Connection to Instructional Focus: Hochman Literacy strategies are incorporated into the lesson when appropriate in order to help students write complex sentences. Task(s) or Learning Activities (1e) : Literature comes in many mediums, meaning it can take many different forms. One of those forms is a graphic novel. Graphic novels are still considered literature because you are still reading a substantial amount of text. The only difference (and the coolest one) is that there are pictures to help you understand what’s going on in the story!
