Project ENGR 427 Fall ‘15 Due Nov. 18 th 2015 You need to design a project for a client that lives at 2436 Delmer St Oakland, CA. The home is a single family home single story with a crawl space and a pitched roof. They plan on raising the building 6’ and lowering the first floor 3’ to create another floor. A seismic upgrade at the first floor level must be designed. Section 1: Gravity loads 1. Verify all existing members for gravity loads (joists, beams, exterior studs, etc). Materials for different areas of the house (E) Exterior wall 1 1/8” lathe and plaster 2x4 studs @ 16” O.C. 7/8” lumber sheathing 7/8” stucco (N) Exterior wall 5/8” gypsum wallboard 2x4 studs @ 16” O.C. Expanded polystyrene insulation (to fill the stud space) 1/2” plywood 7/8” stucco (E) Interior wall 2 layers of 1 1/8” lathe and plaster 2x4 studs @ 16”O.C. (N) Interior wall 2 layers of 5/8” gypsum board 2x4 studs @ 16” O.C. Second Floor (E) 2x8 joists @ 16” O.C. (this may change depending on joist calculations) 5/8” gypsum board
