Web databases, relation with EC. Course Aims and Objectives To introduce students to the database approach to information systems development, and to the important concepts and principles of this approach. To introduce students to the database development process, within the broader context of information systems development To present a detailed description of the entity-relationship model and the use of this tool within the context of conceptual data modeling. To describe in depth the major steps in logical database design, with more emphasis on the relational model. To present physical database design as a critical element in achieving overall database objectives, rather than as an afterthought. To Explain SQL and to show the basic operators so that the student can anticipate the capabilities of particular SQL-based systems. To provide many examples of relational queries from SQL, which show such capabilities as multiple-table data retrieval (join and other operators such as difference, union, and intersection), explicit and implicit joining, and built-in functions. To highlights the importance of the Internet environment, and the role of the database within it.
