Results and Discussion: The experiment was implemented in order to become acquainted with the Spectrochemical series and use the determined wavelengths of absorbance to determine the identities of the unknown cobalt complexes. The cobalt complexes are in the form of Co(NH 3 ) 5 X Y+ , where X is the ligand and Y+ is the magnitude of the positive charge. In lab, the instructor assigned a cobalt complex to synthesize, either A or B. The group was given complex B to synthesize. We followed a set of guidelines in order to synthesize the cobalt complex B. First five grams of the cobalt salt was obtained and had a maroon like color. Four grams of NH 4 Cl was dissolved in water then mixed with the five grams of the cobalt salt while being heated gently. The hot mixture was then added to .3 grams of activated charcoal, brought down to room temperature, where 15 ml of concentrated NH 4 OH was added then the mixture was brought down to 10ºC. The solution was then mixed, slowly, with hydrogen peroxide where bubbles
