Western Civ Notes 7/3 Age of Enlightenment: Era of new thoughts. People known as  philosophes . Scientific Revolution: People who were good/interested in mathematics. They were fearful to share ideas and discoveries because of religious beliefs. Aristotle’s work came back in the Middle Ages. Philosophized about the universe Used deductive reasoning Ptolemy (dates?)  Earth is the center of the universe and planets orbit around it. Went well with religious beliefs- God, Jesus, etc. Humans are the pinnacle of God. Due to that belief, their calendar was skewed. Nicolas Copernicus: Heliocentric Theory Worked math equations with planets Declared that the SUN was the center of the universe. o Discussed with other mathematicians Johannes Kepler: Elliptical Orbit (rotation based on position) Galileo (   -1642): Spoke publicly about the sun being the center of the universe, then got
