Radioactive Decay of Cubium Instructions    You have found a radioactive isotope of the element Cubium . When Cubium (the parent isotope ) decays it becomes Flatium (the daughter isotope ). Your job is to collect data about Cubium and use the data to find its half-life. Collect the Data: a. Open a Spreadsheet to create a “Decay Curve Data Table” with the following columns: SHAKE # (do not pass 20 shakes) # OF YEARS (each shake = 2000 yrs) # OF PARENT REMAINING # OF DAUGHTER REMOVED 0 0 (starting # of isotopes) 0 b. Obtain a sample of Cubium. Count the atoms of Cubium and place them into the large container. c. Shake the container, let the cubes settle into a single layer, and open the top. d. Assume that any atom showing the designated mark “x”, has decayed to become Flatium , (the daughter isotope formed when the parent isotope Cubium decays). Remove the daughter isotopes, count them, and record the amount on the “Decay Curve Data Table”.
