Productscan Online reports on the release of a licorice and a coffee flavored gum, both launched by Wrigley, and demonstrating its determination to stay ahead of its competitors. Meanwhile, the health trend has taken a new turn with the introduction of a heart health snack bar, indicating that the on-the-go health trend is segmenting into more specific consumer health needs. Wrigley has introduced a uniquely flavored sugar-free gum in Germany: the Black Mint variety of its Airwaves brand is flavored with licorice, anis and menthol. The inclusion of licorice in the gum suggests that the substance is becoming more popular as a flavoring and that licorice will become increasingly available in other areas of the food sector, other than candy. Wrigley has also introduced a new flavored gum in the US, which exploits the growing appeal of coffee flavored products in the food and drinks sector. The Kona Creme variant of DoubleMint gum is flavored with coffee powder and artificial ingredients, but is said to contain only a trace of caffeine.
