Megan Lawless 9/19/2007 Chapter 6 Discovery Questions 1. Maybe there was no binding in those spots so there weren’t any cDNAs to illuminate it. 2. cDNA is made from mRNA using reverse transcriptase. The DNA needs to be denatured so it can bind to the glass slide as a single strand. 3. DNA chips and Southern blots are both used to determine sequences of DNA. Southern blots include a mixture of known and unknown DNAs, while DNA chips are of know sequence. Southern blotting requires the use of probes, but probes aren’t needed with DNA chips. It isn’t plausible to use Southern blotting on a large scale in the way that DNA chips
