Emily Ng Vocabulary Political Geography : The study of geography involving geographic states, borders, and how humans identify with  them                   State:  an area organized into a political unit and ruled by an established government with control over its internal and foreign affairs Territory: Territoritality: the attempt by and individual or group to affect, influence, or control people, phenomena, and relationships, by delimiting and asserting control over a geographic area Sovereignty: having the last say (having control) over and territory-politically and militarily territorial integrity: the right of a state to defend sovereign territory against incursion from other states mercantilism: associated with the promotion of commercialism and trade peace of westaphilia: Peace negotiated in 1648 to end the 30 Years' War, Europe's most destructive internal struggle over religion. Nation: a term encompassing all the citizen of a state. a tightly knit group of people possessing bonds of language, ethnicity, religion, and other shared cultural attributes. Nation state: a recognized member of the modern state system possessing formal sovereignty and occupied by a people who see themselves as a single, united nation. Democracy: Government based on the principle that the people are the ultimate sovereign and have the final say over what happens within the state multinational state: a state with more that one nation inside its borders multistate nation: when a nation stretches across borders and across states
