Andy Cormack World Religions Martinez Jainism Internet Paper Jainism defers from many of the worlds religions simply because it is completely derived from human origin. The purpose of Jainism is to attain knowledge, self-control, and complete omniscience. When this is obtained one is completely liberated from the rebirth cycles and is no longer bound to a human, worldly existence. God in Jainism is not responsible for the well-being, protection, and creation of the universe, in fact the concept of God can be passed along to humans. The idea of God taking a human form to vanquish devils and demons does not exist in Jainism. Those followers that have attained the omniscience, self-control, and knowledge are considered Gods in Jainism. While Jainism does not believe in a creator God, it is not an atheistic religion. It believes in many Gods who are self realized individuals and who have attained liberation. The teachings of Jainism predate written history and therefore are older than that of
