Rob Rhodes Z102980 Sociology 381 Assignment #1 The graph I found was at the website provided in the description of the assignment. The graph depicts violent crime rates by the gender of the victim. The data is given as a rate of number of violent crimes, which include homicide, rape, robbery, and both simple and aggravated assault, per 1,000 people over the age of 12. The graph includes data from the entire United States. The years included in the graph are from 1973 to 2005. The data from 1973 to 1993 is taken from the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reports and is adjusted to the National Crime Victimization Survey. The data from 1993 to 2005 is taken directly from the NCVS. For male victims, the graph starts at 68 violent crimes per 1,000 people over the age of 12. It stays fairly constant until it peaks in 1977 with 71.3 violent crimes per 1,000 people over the age of 12. The crime rate for male victims declines slightly until 1980 it reaches 68.3. Then it spikes back up to 71.1 the next year, in 1981. After this point, the rate violent crimes with male victims steadily
