Students will use conditional probabilities to assess association amongst categorical variables. Students will simulate generating a Simple Random Sample. Students will understand that random sampling minimizes bias. TWO-WAY TABLES An Australian researcher conducted a study on a married couple’s risk of separation based upon whether the wife’s parents had been divorced. The results from the study are below. Couple’s Status Married (Co-habitating) Separated Totals Wife’s Parents Not Divorced 1092 72 1164 Divorced? Divorced 292 42 334 Totals 1384 114 1498 1. Complete the missing row and column totals. 2. Compute the proportion of wives with parents that are Not Divorced . 1164/1498= .77 Compute the proportion of wives with parents that are Divorced .
