Finance 826 Spring 2004 Professor Helwege email: [email protected] telephone: 292-3217 office hours: Tuesdays 2-4 in Fisher 812 and by appointment website: www.cob.ohio-state.edu/~fin/faculty/helwege (click on courses then 826) Course description: This is a class on financial institutions in the U.S. with an emphasis on the current structure of the financial services industry and some recent history. The first half of the course deals with the risks to which these institutions are exposed; the second half of the class deals with the types of financial firms and institutions in the U.S. Required texts: 1. Saunders and Cornett, Financial Institutions Management , 4th ed., Irwin/McGraw- Hill (Note that Cornett is added as a co-author on the 4 th ed. and the book is similar to the 2 nd and 3 rd editions of Saunders’ Financial Institutions Management. The old editions are ok. Also, there are several other books by Cornett and Saunders for the undergrad market. Make sure you have the right book, if you are shopping in unusual places: ISBN: 0-07-248619-8 published for the first time in 2003) 2. Supplemental lecture notes (available from Zip Publishing) 3. Cases and readings packet (available from Zip Publishing)
