Dear America: Letters Home from VietnamQuestions1.There were many daily hardships faced by soldiers in Vietnam. They had no comforts and were forced to live in harsh conditions most of the time that they were there. There was an abundance of insects that bothered the soldiers and was mentioned in the documentary multiple times. One of the greatest hardships faced daily by the soldiers was the fear of death that was constantly upon them.2.In the letters, most soldiers seemed to intentionally omit a fear of death. This may have been because they didn’t want the recipient of the letter to be any more worried than they already were about the soldier. Another possible reason relates to The Things They Carried, specifically when the author talks about the embarrassment that the soldiers felt at their fear of death. The soldiers may have been embarrassed to write that they were afraid of dying because of the mindset they were in from the war.
