Laws With Age Restrictions: One cannot gamble or purchase a firearm until 21. One cannot serve in the House of Representatives until 25. One cannot run for president until 35. One cannot rent a room until 21. One cannot rent a car until 21 (Avis, Budget, Dollar*, Hertz*) or 25 (Alamo, Enterprise).

However : Insisting on a right because of the existence of other rights is an irrelevant comparison. A legal adult does not need every right simply because he or she receives many privileges at eighteen. Responsibilities are better handled when received in increments.

Ability to Serve in the Armed Forces Does Not Qualify One to Drink Drinking reduces productivity, morale, and unit readiness on the lines of combat. More than half of all active duty military personnel binge drink every month. “Young adult service members exposed to combat are at significantly greater risk of binge drinking than older service members.” Soldiers drink more overseas where it is legal. “15 percent are heavy users of alcohol in the continental United States, while outside the United States, 25 percent are heavy users...
