Week OneMy objective for this week is to get to know the residents on the floor and formulate a group for people with Traumatic Brain Injuries(TBI’s), along with the help of my mentor. My outcome this week is that I did get to know 3 of the residents with a TBI, each with their own responses to the brain injury. One of the residents forgets in about 5 minutes of what was just discussed and another reacts with anger about the whole situation but forgetting what had happened. The third resident has trouble formulating words due to an accident with a horse stepping and or hitting his head.My evaluation of these residents is that the educational process is going to be a long road with the possibility of not recovering from their TBI. The group therapy or education will have to be changed according to the residents’ mood or situation for that day.My plan would be to keep providing group education weekly and providing a creative educational environment for the residents and have more interactive learning in place. I think this experience will help me to develop my communication skills and to focus on the resident instead of the task.Week Two:My objective this week is to keep trying to get to know the residents and build a trusting foundation in that the residents will open up in the group and share. The outcome of this week was that the residents cooperated and participated in this week’s group. Interactive group was provided. The resident drew their own pictures about what they were feeling and had to explain to the group what the picture meant. The one resident that had short memory problems drew a picture of his kids and how he thought of them as young and how much he missed them. The evaluation of this week is that I feel that the resident who opened up about how he felt about his kids and being apart from him and how it will help him to take some of those emotions or load off of his shoulders and allowing to have his feelings verified. My plan is to keep providing creative group sessions. This is so the residents will feel more comfortable and open up.
