In your essay do not merely summarize the plot. Many a novel has portrayed the grand rebellion of societal expectations through some kind of hero. But controversial and unique to its time, Kate Chopin’s novel,The Awakening,utilizes a heroine to critique and call to question questionable aspects of the society to which it was written. At the time, the criticism Chopin wrote about caused major uproar amongst readersand probably those beyond.
