Economics Article Analysis AP Macroeconomics, 2016 Objective: Demonstrate your understanding of key economic concepts from the course by applying the major concepts and theories to real world events. 1. Find a news article pertaining to an economics related issue from the past year. a. Unlike the summer assignment, this article should NOT include much analysis or argument. You are looking for a purely factual article. b. Articles should be short (1-2 pages?) and include some discussion of a problem that needs to be addressed (or is being addressed). c. Use trusted news sources: New York Times, Washington Post, Yahoo!, BBC, smaller local papers, etc. Avoid The Wall Street Journal because it will probably include too much analysis. Avoid the Opinion pages. 2. Write an analysis of the article showing your understanding of the major concepts of economics (think about our last several units: fiscal policy, monetary policy, supply side policies, and the consequences or effects of these policies). Approx. 2-3 pages double spaced; no more than 750 words. a. Intro/Summary/Thesis: Introduce the article’s main idea, problem and concepts very briefly . Conclude your intro with a “thesis” that tells us what you will discuss or argue in part(e) below. Think about this as an answer to the question your article discusses (see attached pages). b. Vocabulary and Models: Throughout your entire paper, you must: i. Use and define-in-context the major vocabulary that pertain to the article and theories you are discussing. You should include at least 4-5 terms. ii. Include two (2) relevant and appropriately labeled economic models in your analysis. These models should be directly referenced in your discussion. Label movements, shifts or lines so that they are easily referenced. c. Explain/Apply: The theories and models you use should be explained fully. In other words, explicitly state how the specific situation/event from the article is addressed or explained by economic theory and represented by the model you have created.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
