Electoral college -representatives of each state who cast the final ballots that actually elect the pres. -winner take all system.. if you win in one state u get the whole state Electoral college representative - each state has electoral votes equal to the number of representatives plus the two us senators California has 55 electoral votes (53 members in the house of rep. plus 2 US senators). -the 23 rd amendment grants the D.C. three electoral votes. Electoral College Rationale -the electoral college originally wight in favor of states with small population. Number of Reps 435 Number of Senators 100 DC electoral votes 3 TOTAL 538 Electoral map - Shows red and blue states, also how many EV each state gets. -Purple map shows districts Faithless electors -Electors who do not vote for their party’s designated candidate. Effects of electoral college -discourages regionalism -discourages third parties -gives greater political weigh to minorities -encourages political apathy and cynicism Demographics -the statistical characteristics of human populations (as age or income) used especially to identify markets How many people in the US?
