Chapter 10 Metallurgie; the study of metals. Metal is important. Prehistoric: we did not have a way to separate the different metals and their properties. but we knew they existed. Metals were used to jewlery, weapons or tools. It was discovered that treating metals could change their properties. Today, we cannot live without metals. Dose vs effect. 6-8000yrs BC: . Realized that if you heat mtals, it chages properties. Smelting. 3000-2000BC: discovered that copper can be mixed with other metals to create bronze. Called the bronze age. Also discovered the value of metals. (gold vs silver. Iron was more valuable than both these last ones.) Iron replaces bronze. New properties of iron are discovered ex. Carbonizing, quenching. Mercuy was first isolated by the greeks. They then realized that you could isolate other metals.
