Sustainable development and environmental stewardship. Basically and intro to environmental engineering and sustainable development. 2 assignments: 1) Questions on the book, done individually. 2) Life cycle analysis assignment. Done in teams on 10. Pick a topic. And make a life cycle map? Due close to the final exam. Midterm: counts for30% Final: counts for 50% Getting a good mark? Pay attention, be environmentally aware, and be sensitive to these problems. Chapter 1 Engineering started out as 3 major departments: civil, mechanical, and industrial Environmental engineering was included in civil engineering because it was associated with air, water, and soil. It then was split to chemical engineering, because the environment goes through changes and transformations. Environmental engineering became its own department when the universities realized it was much bigger than what was originally known. It deals with anything that is natural, or any type of living organism. Or, the health of the ecosystem. We care about the welfare of the environment.
