Kole Cox Ms.Janes Spanish 1 - Period 7 4 February 2014 Carnival in Cuba Carnival is a holiday, that is celebrated in Cuba. It usually occurs about the same time as the holiday of Mardi Gras. I will be informing you about the cultural similarities and differences as well as comparing and contrasting these two holidays, and analyzing the aspects of Carnival. Carnival and Mardi Gras are both usually celebrated about the same time in February, ( Devreux, 2011) but Cuba usually celebrates Carnival in the summer months of June and July ( Devreux, 2011). They both are very large celebrations and get a lot of people involved. Although Mardi Gras is a branch off of the Carnival season they both include celebrations and customs referring to Lent (Adamson, 2008). The two celebrations have a high population of Catholics that celebrate them, but they both are open to everybody who wants to join. They both have lots of group activities such as, Parades, Group Sports, and lots of Dancing ( Carnival in santiago de cuba, 2005). In both holidays, there is extreme costumes, and outrageous performances ( Devreux, 2011). Carnival has morphed from a celebration of bountiful feasts to a overpopulated week long block party.
