In Judith Lorber’s essay “Night to his Day”, she defines gender as a way humans
organize and treat each other. It is so embedded into our society that only in instances when these
gender roles are broken do we notice them. Gender also affects the way you live your life, as
soon as you are labeled a girl you now have different path in life versus if you were labeled a
boy. Now what if we challenged this idea of gender and gender norms. In fact, there are many
parents tooday, who let their children be gender fluid in the choices they make, some even go as
far as to not reveal the gender of the child, that way they have no expectations to hold up to one
gender. The Huffington Post had an article, “Who Needs Gender Norms? Not Children — That’s
for Sure”. The author of this article, Frida Berrigan, also a parent, shared her experience with
gender norms with her child and a few stories from other parents. She noticed how people
