Twenty-Sixth Amendment “The right of citizens of the United States who are eighteen years or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State on account of age.” Passed 1971, in response to Vietnam service, but roots traced back to World War II. The 26th Amendment brings new blood, new ideas and clearer vision to American government. A new day is coming and the youth of America will bring it about. I suggest that their motto might be, “If it is to be, it is up to us.” -- U.S. Rep. Dan Kubiak of Texas, December, 1971
