Mathematics 224 Fall 2006 GENERAL COURSE INFORMATION Section 02, 8-210, TuTh 10:00am–11:50am Instructor: Professor Stephen Wirkus, [email protected] (e-mail), 869-4513 (phone), 8-216 (office) All course info will be posted at my URL: www.csupomona.edu/ swirkus Office Hours: Tues, Thurs 9:30am-9:50am, 2:00-2:50pm Wed 9:30am-12:10pm Prerequisites: Must have a C or better in MAT 116 Analytical Geometry and Calculus III. Textbook: MAT 224 Fall 2006: A Course in Ordinary Differential Equations by R.J.Swift and S.A.Wirkus, available only at Bronco Copy ’N Mail. Computer: Many of the homework assignments will involve the use of Matlab, Maple, and/or Mathematica. All are available in the Math Computer Lab (8-147). (As a strictly optional al- ternative, you could purchase student versions of one of the programs for about $120; see or www.mathworks.com, www.maplesoft.com, or www.wolfram.com for more information.) Appendix A is intended to provide a crash course in each of these software packages. It is written assuming no familiarity with the software. If you have any questions about these packages at any point during the quarter, please come to office hours and I will help.
