EARLY CHILDHOOD CASE STUDY 2Early Childhood Case Study AnalysisIntroductionOur textbook, The Life Span: Human Development for Helping Professionals, discusses the current case study(Broderick and Blewitt, 2015). Dawn, a four year old . girl, was raised has been raised in a two parent household. Her mother is a stay at home mom, while her father works to provide for the family. Both parents have been very attentive to their daughter, by both caring for her and playing with her. During the times when Dawn was fussy, showed resistance or frustration, her mother was patient and affectionate toward her. Recently, Dawn’s parents had another baby. The baby was born with a congenital heart defect that requires a lot of medical care and attention at home. The baby is very fussy and difficult to soothe. Dawn’s father had to pick up more hours at work which causes him not to be able to be home as often. Dawn’s mother has to provide a lot more attention to the baby and has required Dawn to become more responsible and do things on her own. She has set new rules for Dawn, including a quiet time. Dawn has started acting up in school, such as throwing toys when upset and refusing to participate in group activities. Terry, Dawn’s mother is troubled by this behavior and concerned as to why it is happening and if there will be problems when it is time to enter kindergarten. The purpose of this paper is to provide a detailed analysis of the presented case study. This analysis will include; a presentation of Dawn’s and her family’s challenges and issues, the selection of a lifespan development theory to explain these challenges, the
EARLY CHILDHOOD CASE STUDY 3impact that their individual and cultural differences have, and an appropriate method of intervention based on life span develop theories and scholarly research. Primary Issues and ChallengesThe addition of a new child to the family has caused some new challenges, such as the baby requires a lot of attention due to his medical condition. Another challenge is Bill has to work extra overtime to cover the bills. These new challenges have caused some issues within the family. One presenting issue, is Terry’s inability to give Dawn the amount of attention and patience that she did before. She is now requiring her to do more things on her own.
